Notice &
Takedown
The Archive Trust for Research in Mathematical Sciences and Philosophy (“the Trust”, “we”, “us”) preserves and makes available the Michael Wright Collection — several thousand audio recordings of lectures, seminars and discussions — in good faith, for non-commercial research, education and the public record.
Some recordings may include material in which other people hold rights (for example the speakers or their estates, or the original recordist), or may feature identifiable individuals. We respect those rights, and we will act promptly on well-founded requests to remove, restrict or correct material. This page explains how to ask.
1. Who can make a request
- A rights holder in a recording, or their estate, heir or authorised representative.
- A person featured in a recording (or their representative).
- Anyone with a serious concern about the content, accuracy, or privacy of a recording or its transcript.
2. How to make a request
Please email [email protected] with the subject line “Takedown request” and include:
- The web address(es) or identifier(s) of the recording(s) concerned (e.g. the
/recording/…page URL, or theMW…catalogue identifier). - Your name and your relationship to the material (rights holder, estate, person featured, or other interested party).
- The nature of your concern — for example copyright, personal data / privacy, a factual error, or a right to be forgotten.
- Where relevant, a short statement of your good-faith belief that you are entitled to make the request.
You do not need a lawyer or a formal legal notice to contact us. A clear email is enough to begin.
3. What we will do
- We will acknowledge your request within 5 working days.
- Where a request appears well-founded, we will remove or restrict access to the material promptly while we review it — we would rather take something down and discuss it than leave a disputed recording online.
- We will review in good faith, aiming to resolve within 30 days, and let you know the outcome. Where we are unable to agree to a request, we will explain our reasons.
- We keep a confidential internal record of requests and the action taken.
4. If your request concerns your own personal data
A recording or transcript that features you may contain your personal data. You have rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, including rights of access, correction, erasure and objection. Please see our Privacy Policy for how those rights work, and use the same contact address above. If you are unhappy with how we handle your request you may also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
5. Our approach
This collection exists to keep a fragile and historically important record of scientific and philosophical thought available to researchers. We balance that public-interest purpose against the rights and wishes of individuals, and we will always try to engage constructively — including restriction, redaction, correction, or the addition of context as alternatives to permanent removal where appropriate.
Send takedown, correction or access requests to [email protected], or write to us at Unit 24, The Coach House, 2 Upper York Street, Bristol BS2 8QN.
